Severance is a psychological sci-fi / thriller series set at Lumon Industries, a mysterious corporation that offers its employees a procedure called âseveranceâ that surgically separates their work memories (âinniesâ) from their non-work / personal memories (âoutiesâ). The show follows Mark S. (played by Adam Scott) and his coworkers as they navigate the consequences of this severance: questions of identity, ethics, memory, and control.
In Season 2, the stakes are higher. After the events of the Season 1 finale, Mark, Helly, Irving, and Dylan are grappling with revelations about Lumon, about their âouties,â about Markâs wife (Gemma, who turns out to be alive and possibly acting under a different identity), and more mysteries about the severance procedure itself. Season 2 further explores Lumonâs secrets, the boundaries between inside and outside worlds (work vs personal), the moral cost of severing memories, and the impacts on relationships, identity, and truth.
