World Cup 2026 Qualifiers – Northern Ireland vs Germany
Michael O’Neill has rejuvenated Northern Ireland, but his team face a daunting challenge in their World Cup qualifier against a determined Germany, who are eager to bounce back after recent setbacks.
O’Neill, the former Newcastle and Hibernian midfielder, famously guided Northern Ireland to Euro 2016. However, his successor Ian Baraclough struggled to replicate that success, and his two-year tenure ended in 2022.
Returning to the dugout, O’Neill needed time to reignite the squad, but progress became clear during the most recent Nations League campaign. Even with renewed momentum, securing World Cup qualification will be tough, as Northern Ireland must also contend with competitive Group A rivals Slovakia and Luxembourg.
