Bauchi Assembly passes N877bn 2026 budget
The Bauchi State House of Assembly has passed the 2026 Appropriation Bill, amounting to N877,052,907,900, into law.
The budget was approved on Tuesday following the presentation of a report by the House Committee on Appropriation, chaired by Wanzam Mohammed, during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Abubakar Sulaiman.
Presenting the report, Mohammed disclosed that N308.7 billion, representing 35.20 per cent of the total budget, was earmarked for recurrent expenditure, while N568.3 billion was approved for capital projects.
He explained that the 2026 budget was designed to accelerate infrastructure development, improve social service delivery, and stimulate sustainable economic growth across Bauchi State.
The committee also commended the state government for key fiscal reforms, including the establishment of a Fiscal Services Commission, capacity building on the new budget framework, and the introduction of sanctions to curb extra-budgetary spending.
Among other recommendations, the House urged the timely release of funds to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), and called for the strengthening of audit and procurement processes to enhance transparency, accountability and effective budget implementation.
